Implementing Rural Transit Technology

June 9-10, 2010
Charlottesville, VA

The National Transit Institute is pleased to announce the availability of its two-day course, Implementing Rural Transit Technology.  The delivery of this course will be held June 9-10, 2010 in Charlottesville, VA. The course is being hosted by the Virginia Department of Rail & Public Transportation

Rural transit providers are interested in exploring how technology can help increase operating efficiencies and improve safety. Technology can transform scheduling and dispatching operations, provide new levels of customer service, and support innovative business practices. However, the process for planning and implementing appropriate technology-based applications can be challenging. This course presents a structured approach for planning, implementing, and evaluating rural transit projects to help ensure that agency needs and expectations are met.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:  

  • Assess agency performance and develop operational objectives
  • Identify technology-based solutions for meeting agency objectives
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to prioritize projects
  • Develop a project plan
  • Review traditional and innovative funding sources for technology projects
  • Discuss project implementation and management strategies
  • Evaluate project effectiveness in meeting agency objectives

Target Audience:  This course is geared for transit professionals, state DOT office staff, and regional planners involved in planning and implementing technology-based applications for rural transit operations.

Tuition shall be waived for federal, state and local government employees who work in transportation or related areas. Tuition is $300.00 for all others.

Instructors Course in Bus Operator Training

Mark your calendars for June 14, 15, 16 & 17, 2010 as Harrisonburg Transit will be hosting TSI's Instructors Course in Bus Operator Training.  

This instructor-led course provides a standardized training program that can be used by any transit service provider to train qualified, professional bus operators.  Instructors are trained in presentation and creative learning techniques, facilitation methods, and adult learning principles for teaching operators skills in operations, emergency manage, and customer relations.  

Upon completion of this course, instructors are qualified to train bus operators by the US Department of Transportation.  All bus operators trained by these instructors will receive US Department of Transportation certificates from the FTA Office of Safety and Security Transportation Safety Institute upon receipt of a written request form the instructor and submission of the course evaluations and roster.  Instructors will receive TSI course materials for vehicle operations, emergency manage, and customer relations, plus road training guidelines.  Included on the CD-ROM are all manuals, electronic slides set, quizzes, course evaluations form, and certificate request form, authorized by the Federal Transit Administration,   Technical support is also available on request. 

All persons who successfully complete this program and become certified supervisors will receive a certificate, wallet card, training and reference manual, and a "Certified Community Transit Supervisor" lapel pin. In addition, CTAA maintains permanent records of CCTS certifications.

CTAV is currently working with Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (VDRPT) to schedule a PASS Train-the-Trainer Course in Roanoke.  Mark this page as one of your "FAVORITES" and check back for updates.


 

 

Van Driver Training

Chesterfield Employment Services conducts a three day Van Driver Training program as needed when new drivers are hired.  This training includes classroom (video and hands-on) as well as behind-the-wheel in each of three different vehicles.  If you would like to have a driver or drivers participate in this class, please contact Dawn Missory for the next available class.
